Look at what you’re actually seeing.
Has the consistency changed? Is it happening repeatedly? Is there blood? Does it appear to be coming from one hen or several?
If something looks unusual, take a photo and note when you first noticed it. That’s much more useful than trying to diagnose the cause yourself.
2. She Isn’t Eating or Drinking Like Normal
Most chicken keepers know how enthusiastic their girls normally are around food.
That’s why a hen suddenly losing interest in the feeder can be such an obvious change.
If she’s eating considerably less, not drinking normally or repeatedly standing away while the others eat, pay attention.
It doesn’t automatically mean coccidiosis. Many things can affect appetite.
But combined with abnormal droppings or changes in behaviour, it’s something I wouldn’t dismiss.
3. She's Falling Behind The Rest of The Flock
Sometimes the easiest thing you can do is simply stand back and watch the whole flock.
Healthy chickens tend to be busy.
They’re scratching, pecking, exploring and following each other around.
If one girl repeatedly hangs back, looks noticeably weak or simply isn’t behaving like herself, that’s worth investigating.
